Sleepacta is a spin-off company of the University of Pisa born from the experience of a team of researchers and clinicians who have been studying sleep and its disorders for years, starting from its role in the modulation of sports performance up to its clinical impairment.
Health is increasingly an absolute priority: from preventive medicine to sport, from nutrition to physical activity, there are many aspects of daily life that have been reevaluated over time in Italy and beyond. Poor sleep quality, in addition to compromising the quality of life of those who experience it, increases the long-term risk of developing disabling diseases for individuals, their families and society. There are few modifiable parameters on which one can intervene to prevent the development of neurodegenerative diseases and other chronic conditions. Sleep quality is one of them.
Sleep disorders:
- according to the WHO (World Health Organization) 45% of the world population suffers from insomnia. 6% to 10% of adults in industrialized countries suffer from chronic insomnia;
- only 7% of the sick population receives an adequate diagnosis and specific treatment;
- sleep deprivation is a risk factor for a greater incidence of cerebrovascular, metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases;
- sleep deprivation is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, particularly hypertension, myocardial infarction and heart failure; Sleep deprivation is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes.
Dormi is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) offered through API, in order to allow easy integration with the different information systems and different application areas adopted by customers: hospital companies, pharmaceutical companies or companies producing medical technology services and solutions.
In seguito alla raccolta dei requisiti abbiamo svolto una progettazione architetturale e abbiamo costruito un team dedicato multi-funzionale che ha lavorato secondo la logica Agile Scrum per sviluppare il software rispondendo velocemente alle esigenze del cliente e del mercato. Abbiamo messo in produzione il servizio usando Amazon Web Services e costruendo una infrastruttura robusta, scalabile in modo automatico, distribuita.
The software synchronizes the data obtained from different wearable devices and processes them through a neural network developed by Sleepacta, trained and validated on polysomnography and optimized on a dataset of over 6,500 actigraphy exams, to provide a report of:
- actigraphy;
- waking up after falling asleep;
- total sleep time;
- sleep efficiency;
- index of sleep regularity.
Our task was to:
- create a SaaS web service that exposes the neural network developed and trained by Sleepacta via API;
- prototyping and system integration of new wearable devices;
- scaling of the service on Amazon Web Services and CI/CD infrastructure. Technologies adopted: Docker, Fargate, SQS, ECR, CircleCI, RDS, EC2, S3.
